Recommended Reading: Playing the violence card

There’s an Op-Ed piece in the New York Times by the director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public Library, Khalil Gibran Muhammad. It’s called Playing the Violence Card and its short.

It’s also intelligent, insightful, and thought-provoking.

If you’ve ever had conflicting feelings about the cause and appropriate response to the problem of black crime in America, you should read this piece.

And if you’ve been recently debating the issues at the heart of the Trayvon Martin case (and its public fallout), you should read this piece.

Scratch that. Everyone should read this piece.

America needs more compassionate, flexible and thoughtful people, and absolutely no more like Chicago’s now infamous bartender (Huffington Post) – Jessica Harr (312 Dining Diva).
